Join us for a day of talks and document viewing as we explore the concepts of war, conflict and peace through the lense of learning and education.

The day’s programme includes a variety of speakers, including:

    • Professor Stuart Foster & Simon Bendry, Centenary First World War Battlefields Project
    • Dr Barry Blades, Teachers and the Great War, 1914-1919
    • Walter Lewis, Educating Service Children in the 20th Century
    • Alix Hall, Thinking Outside the Box: Using Archives to Teach Perspectives on Wartime
    • Archive showcase of relevant collections from the Library Special Collections and Archives

Educating Londoners, Sharing Experiences in the Archives (Document Reference: ABB/G/1/27)

Join us for a day of talks, recollections and document viewing to explore the stories of Londoners and their education. LMA partners with the Archives at the University of London’s Institute of Education to inspire discussion and reflection on education in London in the 20th century. From school architecture to school yard play, teacher unionism to after school detention, school dinners to curriculum reform, this day’s timetable can cover it all.

Explore your Archives Open Day at the IOE!

On Wednesday, November 20th, drop in to the Archives at the Institute of Education’s Newsam Library & Archives and explore story boxes from our collections.  Teacher trainees and students can pick up teaching resources and discuss how to use original documents in the classroom.
